My Final Post!

Wow class is over! I have to say that when I first started this class I was a little nervous and unsure of what to expect. To my surprise that class has been nothing at all like I expected. The topics in the class were very cool and I would often find myself searching for additional information on the topics we covered. Making this blog to document my experience was in fact a very cool thing that I would like to do in all of my future classes. Listening to my classmates share there experiences provided alot of insight as to how other company's handle issues relating to information technology. My favorite topic was information security but I must say there were others that piqued my interest (offshoring, ERPs, etc.). The class projects were also a nice way to tie in the topics from the book into real life subjects that most people use everyday anyway. The class also touched on building a business and how technology plays a roll in this. Overall I loved this course and I'm glad that this was my first class in my MS degree. Now I'm just waiting on a grade ;-)

Week 6

Midterm week!

Week 11

It's almost a wrap!! Finals are due this week and I'm having trouble posting my final ;-(

Week 10

This had to be the coolest week of class! We all got the chance to create our own topics and it was a nice change of pace. It was cool reading through the topics and seeing what my classmates had on their minds. Before this I had not given much thought as to how much goes into creating a topic that reflects what you've learned and will create interest in the person responding to your post. I also edited my very first wiki page! We have a wiki on the intranet at work but I have never contributed to it...I guess I may just start after this ;-)

Week 4

This week we did a project on Twitter and its network capabilities. Because I'm not a fan of Twitter and since I'm already on Facebook, I would have much preferred doing the mini project on that ;-) We discussed the internet and the implementation of IPV6 which was cool. The topic "The Next Big Thing" was an interesting one. I can remember when I was younger and had no knowledge of the internet or how to use it. Now it seems that children as young as 5 can use it effectively. It makes me wonder how far it will progess in my daughter's lifetime.

week 9

This week's topic on security threats and unethical business practices were interesting. One of the main functions of my division is to assess the threats that my company faces and try to prevent them so it was fun hearing all of the posts on this and how each is working to minimize this threat. I would have loved to make a youtube video instead of posting someone else's video but time constraints made this impossible.

On to week 10....

week 8

This week has been challenging for me so hopefully this week's work is at an acceptable level. SWOT analysis is a new term for me, and learning about it was interesting. We do something similar at work but we don't call it SWOT so it was kind of an aha moment. While I could not do one on my department it was cool to perform one anyway.

Week 7

Midterms have come and gone and I hope I that the work I did was acceptable. These weeks mini project has left me thinking about the govnerment and some of the stats I was able to see. This is my first time using Fedoscope and in was interesting to see how underreprsented some groups were in certain locations, job functions and areas in government. This class is unlike what I had expected in that so far it has challenged me to think about things that I wouldn't have other wise associated with this course. While I may not always agree with the posts it is nice to hear other's opinions on the topics.

On to week 8...

Week5

For me this week was the most fun. I liked thinking up a e-business and I actyally came up with the idea fo my busniess because I'd like to start one one day and with some many possiblities I don't know where to start. I like the way the mini projects tie into the dicussions well actually I like the mini projects better ;-)

Keeping my fingers crossed for the mid-term!

Week 3

This class has really started to make me think about how information technology is handled in business and personal arenas. After reading the thread on data at rest I was surprised to find similiarities in the way some orgnizations handle thier data in comparison to my office. My office is very protective of their data for good reason of course but I always thought that the extent to which they go to protect data at rest was a bit overboard. However, as I read more about it, I now look at it differently and it actually makes sense to me now. I'm looking forward to week 4.

Week 2 Reflection

This week has been very interesting. After playing around alittle I was able to create my first podcast and in doing so it made me think of how far technology has come and will go in the future. I also enjoyed the dicussion on virtualization and was surprised to learn that virtual worlds and virtualization were two different topics. I'm looking forward to the upcoming weeks.

About me

Hello my name is Tameka Flack. What my friends call me depends on how long they've known me. My childhood friends call me by my nickname (Angel). Friends from high school call me Flack, and my college friends call me Tameka. Basically, I'm a girl with many names. I'm a wife and the mother to a wonder 11 month old daughter named JaHanna.

I graduated with my BS in Computer Science in 2007 and I am currently pursuing my MS/MBA at the University of Maryland University College. Right now I work for the federal government, and while I enjoy my job and the people I work with, my 4 hour commute each day is hard.
